Let us tell you more about Emerge! Our vision is to expand the Emerge ministry to include helping youth who have aged out of foster care. 23,000 kids age out of the foster care system every year when they turn 18, and one out of four of these young people end up homeless. 71% of the young ladies who age out become pregnant by age 21 and many of their children end up right back in foster care. This vicious cycle needs to come to an end. At Stone Coast Community Church, we’re committed to doing something about this. Emerge continues with Emerge Skills and Emerge Living.
Emerge Skills is a support program that offers older youth life-skills workshops and supports them in their pursuit of healthy living, education and career counseling. Volunteers will offer their expertise and teach a class in finance, cooking, job search, and more. Emerge Skills will launch in 2021 to support the youth in Emerge Mentoring and eventually the youth in Emerge Living. If you would like to participate in a workshop or generally support Emerge Skills, we would love to hear from you.
Emerge Living is our ministry that helps these young people who have aged out of foster care and have no support to have a place to live, learn life skills, get an education, find a fulfilling career, and to support them throughout this process. Emerge Living focuses on transitioning the youth from the foster care system to independent living. Emerge Living will provide safe housing, an Emerge Mentor, and Emerge Skills. We are looking forward to launching sometime in late 2021 or early 2022!
